Prince at age 19 in 1990 on American Bandstand. I like how they don't try to hide the lip-syncing by doing fade-outs. See the unusual interview in the middle of the two songs.

南極のオーロラ

The South Pole Aurora: これこれ、こういうのリアルタイムで見たい。人工衛星データ & PS3の分散処理とかでできないかなー. My t/rusty translator returns the following: "This this, you saw in such real time to be. The satellite data & the distributed processing of PS3 with the kana which it is not possible". Not sure what to make of the "not possible" part of the translation. The video is on NASA's site, which would suggest it's either very real or a simulation of a potential problem. Any English speaking astrophysicists or research agents out there?

Timelapse Animation of Wikipedia Entry for 7/7 London Bombings

Duncan Rawlinson creator of this work writes, The Day Citizen Media Went Mainstream: "I couldn't help but notice how different my media consumption has been surrounding the terrorist attacks in London from  September 11th.  When my girlfriend came and hammered on my door on the morning of September 11th I turned on CNN and just watched.  When I heard about the bombings in London I looked it up on Flickr, Nowpublic, Wikipedia, Wikinews to mention a few."

US Bombing in Iraq

This is the furthest we'll ever go with violent imagery and this is a very, very rare extreme (I'm still not sure how I feel about posting this); you can not see anyone being killed though its likely many deaths and injuries occurred from this US attack on what appears to be Iraq. (a) Note how an entire city block is instantly disintegrated. (b) Try a frame advance and note the force of debris as it misses the soldiers by inches. [from Fototime served here. [quicktime version]

Pippi!!

Sometimes, you just need proof that something, way back in your vague childhood recollections, actually existed. It is at these times, when I feel like an archeologist searching on the internet. Here is a tiny clip I unearthed. Astrid Lindgren's children's book, Pippi Longstocking, was adapted in 1973 for the screen, starring Inger Nilsson as the irrepressible Pippi. (image: via)
