Sony-Bravia Bouncing Balls

Who cares that it's calling attention to a TV set, this Sony advertisement is absolutely wonderful in-and-of-itself. It's likely you already knew about the commercial or have even seen some of the 250,000 bouncy balls months ago, but it was just released this week. Behind the scene interviews. The I-feel-like-I'm-floating-and-everything-is-calm-and-serence music is "heartbeats" by José González.

Alternate Titanic Trailer

In the wake of popularity from the newfound love of remixing movie trailers (see the shining remix), this alternative version of the classic blockbuster love story, "The Titanic", portrays a horror story that likely would not have done quite as well at the box office. Check out the P.S.260 kids for more like fun (neat website too). Additional info, interview, etc. at Tattered Coat.

Back Street Burger King Boys

Not exactly the Pepsi Generation but rather, the Burger King Generation? The Back Street Boys do a commercial for a life time supply of whoppers. I can't help believe that they really did get that as part of the deal. (via).

Nike Shox

Grasshopper beats Nike shoes. This is another example of how the shoe itself is less important than the clever animation.

British Adidas Commercial

Also, from: the making of:
"The shoot itself took place over seven days in a large studio in Madrid. The entire space was painted blue, to save manoeuvring blue screens around all the different set ups. There were several sets, each designed for different types of shot. "The beams on which the players were running were wooden – we replaced them all in post".

Uncomplicate

New Levis commercial. This is a perfect example of an interesting and well done work that finishes with a product that could just as well be any product. This one took the extra step of creating a scene that was at least fashion ad specific (via).

Isn't it Cool in Pink?

What can you say about this one. It's a time encapsulated treasure. After the shock of it wears off about 8 seconds in I burst into laughter like a little kid, "Do it again, do it again."

...yeah, that's Matt LeBlanc ...yeah, that's right, the TV show Friends. :)

Welcome to Stunt City - silly ad, contagious ad

What if stunt men ruled the world? Enjoy this little scenario. Oh, and yeah, it's an ad. It's even a deodorant ad, and I don't care because it's freggin' awesome.

What's so evil about ads anyway? Is it that they a) suck and b) we can't shut them off? Well, you a) can shut this one off anytime you like, but it also b) doesn't suck. Suddenly the game changes.

more, via 1, & 2

Maybe if we all blogged about stuff we love regardless of whether it was commercial or not there'd suddenly be a new economy for adverting, a world where ads don't suck, a world where ads find their appropriate market without stinking up the global namespace (or screenspace). Perhaps the ads that suck will be disincentived because people will ignore them. Perhaps ads that don't suck will get talked about and traded like this one, because when you promote the things you like you encourage them. Perhaps this is why contagious media rocks.

Perhaps in the future, all media will be contagious.

Turn your iPod into a portable video player

Just stumbled upon this sweet gadget, the Nyko MoviePlayer. It turns your iPod into a video player. With the recent iTunes update now supporting videos this little puppy makes a whole lot of sense. It appears to use the iPod as a storage unit and adds a HD color screen, controls, playback software/hardware, speakers and some additional battery juice. And while its not available yet in the US market I'll bet it's going to be a lot cheaper and a whole lot more handy than buying a second iPod-like device for just video. Then again, maybe the next Apple iPod will play video. Hello? Apple?

BTW, It appears to play all the major formats including MPEG, QT and WMV with the single exception of Real Player Format, so it can handle just about anything. Personally, I want one yesterday. :) more info

Cat Herder

When the west was wild, so were the cats. They roamed untamed and free but our homes were lacking in a certain warmth around the hearth, the warmth of furry feline love. Thanks to some brave men we now have housecats.

Sony Playstation - Double Life - a well done plug

I was mesmerized by this really well done Sony Playstation commercial.

For years, I've lived a double life.
In the day, I do my job -
I ride the bus, roll up my sleeves with the hoi polloi.
But at night, I live a life of exhilaration,
of missed heartbeats and adrenalin.
And, if the truth be known, a life of dubious virtue.
I won't deny it - I've been engaged in violence, even indulged in it.
I've maimed and killed adversaries - and not merely in self-defence.
I've exhibited disregard for life, limb and property,
and savoured every moment.
You may not think it, to look at me,
but I have commanded armies and conquered worlds.
And though in achieving these things I've set morality aside,
I have no regrets.
For though I’ve led a double life, at least I can say:
I've lived.
